Overview

Varicose veins are veins that have become enlarged and twisted. Any vein may become varicose, but the veins most commonly affected are those in your legs and feet. For many people, varicose veins and spider veins are simply a cosmetic concern. Other people have varicose veins that cause aching pain and discomfort.  

Signs you may have varicose veins:

  

  • Enlarged, bulgy, or grouping vein in legs
  • Leg sore and ankle swelling after long standing
  • Calf cramping as sleeping
  • Skin itchiness, darkening or ulcer
  • Vein bleeding 

Diagnosis

Non-invasive painless DUPLEX ULTRASOUND examination will be performed by a certified vascular ultrasound technicians. 


This usually takes 15 minutes to complete. This device uses sound waves to assess the severity of your varicose and identify the cause of your varicose vein (Simple varicose vein, venous reflux, high venous pressure, deep vein thrombosis or iliac vein compression, etc.)

Varicose Veins Treatment

Endovenous laser therapy (EVLT)

  

  • An FDA approved minimal invasive endovascular treatment for vein reflux, which is a common cause of varicose veins, leg swelling, heaviness, cramps, skin discoloration, and non-healing wounds. It becomes the Gold Standard for current treatment of varicose veins.

  

  • It started with the placement of a thin laser fiber into the diseased veins under ultrasound guidance, followed by an application of laser energy to close the malfunctioning veins. Over time, the treated veins are absorbed by the body.

  

  • The EVLT procedure is done in our office under local anesthesia, and it usually takes less than 20 minutes. No incision. You will be able to resume your normal activities or go back to work immediately after EVLT treatment.



Compression Stocking

  

  • ClaudicationA conservative therapy provides external support to varicose veins. It may relieves leg pain or swelling, but not cure.



Sclerotheraby Injection

  

  • Claudication In sclerotherapy, a liquid chemical agents are injected directly into varicose veins. They act to cause the varicose vein walls to be come irritated and forming clots. It usually is a office-based supplement therapy after EVLT treatment.



Surgical Ligation and Stripping

  

  • This is traditional surgical removal of severe varicose veins, either active bleeding or refractory to minimal invasive methods. It requires hospital admission.
